The Maine Climate Council is charged with developing a plan to meet state greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets that are now in law, including a gross 45% greenhouse gas emissions reduction below 1990 levels by 2030 and at least 80% by 2050.

Starting with an overview of energy use by sectorour panel of experts will explore challenges for meeting these targets. What combination of strategies could work, and what business opportunities might emerge? How have other states proceeded? What is the baseline and how will progress be tracked? Do Maine’s forests offer a unique advantage, or has that been over-stated? As the Climate Council begins work on a blueprint for action, this panel will look at the scope of their undertaking.
