Happy Fourth of July!

Brian Whitney MTI President

As our soggy month of June ends – – and with it, MTI’s fiscal year – – I look forward to July and our next fiscal year with a great deal of hope and enthusiasm.  And, with a little luck, we might also be able to string together a few dry, sunny days.  One can dream!

As I reflect on this past fiscal year and the amazing innovators we’ve encountered as Maine’s unique technology-based economic development organization, I continue to believe that it’s Maine’s tech-enabled businesses that will continue to transform our economy and state for the better.  I believe it because it’s true, as I have a front seat to it all.

At MTI, we have the distinct honor and privilege of working with some incredible Maine dreamers and doers — people who use ideation techniques to creatively develop innovative solutions to big problems.  These entrepreneurs and organizations continuously look for opportunities to tackle challenges that seem too daunting for most to confront.  Nearly all encounter some level of failure on their journey but few throw in the towel.  They tinker a bit more, try a new path, pivot, and approach it from a different angle until they’re satisfied. It’s wonderful to behold and truly inspirational.

With our nation’s Independence Day almost upon us, I am reminded of the following quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson: “America is another name for opportunity.”  Those six simple words help sum up the entrepreneurial spirit, grit, determination, perseverance, and resiliency we at MTI witness daily.

Opportunity abounds in Maine and America.  Don’t be afraid to pursue and seize it!  MTI and our partners in Maine’s innovation ecosystem can help you on your entrepreneurial journey.  Visit our website to learn how.  Oh, just don’t call on July 3rd or 4th as we will be closed in observance of the holiday.  We’ll be back on the 5th.

Please take some time on Independence Day to celebrate our great land of opportunity.  Get together with family and friends; enjoy a parade, picnic, or barbeque; go to the mountains or beach; and cap off the day by viewing a fireworks display.

Happy Fourth of July!

Best,
Brian
