Renewable Energy Technology Fund
In 2008, the Maine legislature authorized the establishment of a Renewable Resources Fund in the Public Utilities Commission. Maine Technology Institute was named as a recipient of an annual distribution of 35% of the funds, to support the development and commercialization of renewable energy technologies. The initial allocation of $37,596 was made in July 2009.
As of May 2010, the Fund has been fully allocated to four recipients:
- Maine Blue Steam Power in Blue Hill for the development of an in-stream turbine
- Lyman Morse in Thomaston for the development of a self-contained float system able to supply power to any needs
- Pellet Shield in Brewer for the development of a patented engineered biofuel technology
- Ben Brickett in Eliot for the development of wind blades for VFG turbines.
