Biomedical Research Fund
The Fund is now closed as all funds have been awarded.
The Maine Biomedical Research Fund (MBRF) was established by the Maine State Legislature to promote economic development and job growth and support non-profit laboratories in Maine that perform peer reviewed biomedical research. Grants have been awarded to eligible Maine institutions that conduct competitive, scientific biomedical research related to the biology, causes, diagnosis, treatment, control and prevention of physical and mental diseases or impairments afflicting humans.

The Maine Biomedical Research Board contracts with MTI to administer MBRF awards. The fund awarded approximately $42.5 million dollars between 2001 and 2005. The source of these funds were State General Funds and several State bond issues approved by Maine voters. The Maine Biomedical Research Fund has awarded all available funds.
Results:
The economic impact of these awards are measured annually as part of the State's Comprehensive Research and Development Evaluation (http://maineinnovation.com/r&e/default.asp).
