Mid-Year Momentum: Grants, Growth & What’s Ahead at MTI

I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July and found some time to spend it with friends and family.

Last week, MTI received an excellent array of applications for our Innovation Ecosystem Development grant program. Our investment officers are beginning the review process now. We were also pleased with both the quantity and quality of the Maine Life Sciences Incubator proposals we received. Those are also under review, and we hope to reach a funding decision by the beginning of August.

Without wishing summer away, we are excited to be planning for the fall which will include an in-person networking event in the midcoast and, later this summer and into fall, we expect to do a number of listening sessions around the state regarding the R & D Bond, passed in November 2024 by Maine voters, to be administered by MTI. The MTI board, along with other stakeholders, has been considering the best way to administer the bond and how to create the most impactful process possible to ensure the funds will have a lasting and positive impact on Maine. Stay tuned for information on dates and locations for the listening sessions.

In the near term, if you’re looking for ways to connect, and you have not checked out our Maine Accelerates Growth (MxG) meetings, we invite you to do so! MxG meets the third Thursday of the month – online – and has an evergreen link which can be found on the MTI MxG page.

And finally, you may have noticed an updated look to our e-newsletter and our website – – both received a significant refresh over the past several months. We hope you are enjoying the new look and feel.  

Enjoy these amazing, yet fleeting days of summer. There is nothing quite like the taste of Maine in summertime, whether it’s enjoying blueberry pie, lobster, steamers, oysters, or fresh vegetables. I hope you are finding as many opportunities as possible to savor every bite.
