MTI is excited to announce the Innovation Ecosystem Development Program, a competitive application for partner organizations seeking to bolster Maine’s innovation economy.

Purpose of the Innovation Ecosystem Development Program

The purpose of the Innovation Ecosystem Development Program is to spur the development of programs that directly support innovation and entrepreneurship in MTI’s seven targeted technology sectors. Organizations not currently based in Maine are eligible to apply; however, all grant funds must be utilized for Maine-based projects and programs that benefit entrepreneurs in MTI’s seven technology sectors.

Applicants shall demonstrate how their proposed project/program will provide a catalyst for enhancing Maine’s innovation economy and supporting Innovation-Driven Enterprises (IDEs) as they scale and grow in Maine and beyond. The ideal applicant has a demonstrated track record of impact, backed by metrics. Additional consideration is given to applicants that strategically partner with other organizations to expand their strength and reach within sectors and across Maine. Organizations may submit only one application in which they are the lead applicant; however, they may participate in multiple applications where other organizations are the lead.

Grants may be approved for multi-year projects/programs. MTI reserves the right to annually tranche multi-year awards based on project/program performance. Innovation Ecosystem Development Program funds must be utilized within 3 years of award announcements.

Innovation Ecosystem Development Fund Details

The Innovation Ecosystem Development Program is a competitive application process requiring matching co-investments on the applicants’ behalf. Awards will be made to a subset of eligible applications that score the highest during the review process. Individual awards will not exceed $500,000.
