Why Grants are an Outstanding, Underappreciated Funding Mechanism

There’s always a chance that an organization’s high-level goals are aligned with your own. In a case like this, it may be to your advantage to attempt to navigate the often complex world of grant funding. Governmental departments and non-profit foundations are often eager to fund commercial endeavors, when the outcome could be mutually beneficial.

One such organization is MTI, the Maine Technology Institute, who has, since its establishment by the Maine State Legislature in 1999, worked with Maine entrepreneurs, established businesses, and research institutions to accelerate the commercialization of innovative products and services, partly through competitive grants. Their mandate is to help grow the technology sector, which will, in turn, stimulate and diversify the Maine economy, and create high-quality jobs for Maine people.

In this seminar, Karen West, MTI TAP Team Consultant, and Shane Beckim, MTI Investment Officer, will help us understand the federal government’s SBIR/STTR programs, as well as MTI’s SBIR-focused programs.
