The Maine Technology Institute (MTI) will conduct a workshop Tuesday, June 27th on the USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture’s (NIFA) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. In this interactive workshop, you’ll learn about this unique opportunity for early stage research and development funding and NIFA’s interests in new technology and/or the utilization of existing technology, that address important economic and social development issues or challenges in rural America.

Topics of interest include Forests & Related Resources, Plant Production — Biology and Engineering, Animal Production and Protection, Air, Water and Soils, Food Science and Nutrition, Rural and Community Development, Aquaculture, Biofuels and Biobased Products, and Small and Mid-Size Farms. Karen West, MTI’s SBIR Consultant, will present an overview of the USDA solicitation and guidance on the elements of writing a winning proposal. MTI’s Investment Officer, Shane Beckim, will provide an overview of MTI’s SBIR support programs and other MTI funded research and development opportunities.

The USDA Rural Development Office has partnered with MTI to present this workshop. Brian Wilson will present information on the services offered by Maine’s USDA Rural Development Office.

Lunch will be provided. This event is free but pre-registration is required.
