1/30/12 - New CLYNK Technology Tracks Recylcling's Environmental Impact
(From MaineBiz) - South Portland-based CLYNK, a bottle and can redemption company, recently launched new online tools to allow members to track the environmental impact of their recycling efforts. The new website has live graphics that allow members to see how much carbon emissions and energy they have saved through redeeming their bottles and cans, according to a press release from the company.
Founded in 2006, CLYNK operates 46 self-serve kiosks in Hannaford Bros. Co. stores. The company's technology scans the bar code on each container processed, identifying the type of material and its weight. A database using environmental information derived from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency then calculates how much the member's recycling has helped the environment. The information is available to members when they log into their accounts on the CLYNK website and updated each time CLYNK processes their bottles and cans.
"We understand the power of data and want to share that information with our members," said Clayton Kyle, CEO of CLYNK. "The positive effects of recycling become tangible when you can see what your actions are doing, individually and collectively."
CLYNK members have redeemed nearly 300 million bottles and cans since 2006.
