2/29/12 - Maine's Pondera teams with Deepak Chopra
From Mass High Tech
Maine nutraceutical company Pondera Pharmaceuticals has launched a line of nutraceutical products endorsed by well-known mind-body medicine pundit Dr. Deepak Chopra.
According to a release from Pownal-based Pondera, the new product is called Deepak Chopra Endorphinate, which the company says is designed to “relieve emotional distress, including anxiety, cravings, anger and fatigue.” The stress-reducing supplement will start shipping on March 10, the release noted.
Pondera is founded by a handful of Crains, according to its website. The president and CEO is lawyer William Crain, and the company is based on the work of his uncle, chief scientific officer for the pharmaceutical division Stanley M. Crain, professor of neurosciences at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, who discovered the bimodal nature of opioid receptors. Dr. Steven Crain is COO and chief scientific officer for the nutraceutical division, and Dr. Michael Crain is chief medical officer.
Nutraceuticals may not get the press of traditional pharmaceuticals, but they do attract funding. In Jan. 2011, Prevention Pharmaceuticals Inc. of New Haven, Conn., sold $650,000 of a $2 million securities offering, to build the company and expand the marketing of its first product, an over-the-counter Omega-3 fatty acid nutraceutical called Omax.
